SOLOMON ISLANDS WESTERN PROVINCE BOAT PROTECTOR, Mid-to-late 20th century. Unique and rare boat protector probably made for a Tomako or a Lisi which is are large canoes from the Solomon Islands. Such boats are usually decorated with fringes of cowrie shells, nautilus shells, and mother-of-pearl including the present lot. When acquired, consignor was told it is named "linkoma" which is a "boat protector." Consignor acquired this item when working in the Solomon Islands. - Height: 15 inches.
