THE GREAT CONFLAGRATION OF LUCERNE AS DEPICTED ON A KAPELLBRUCKE PANEL; HAND-COLORED LITHOGRAPH FROM JAKOB SCHWEGLER'S "GEMALDE DER KAPELLBRUCKE," LUCERNE circa 1820s Triangular hand-colored lithograph, printed in the 1820s by the Eglin Brothers of Lucerne, shows the city of Lucerne consumed by a great fire. The image is taken from the triangular wooden panels that hung inside the Kapellbrucke covered bridge, which had painted with scenes from Lucerne's history. The view looks across the Reuss River toward the burning city, where flames rise above the towers, churches, and walls of the medieval town. At the bottom corners of the triangle are small decorative roundels featuring a coat of arms and a figure, and German text runs along the base. The print was published as part of Jakob Schwegler's book documenting the painted panels of the Kapellbrucke. Framed. Sight (as matted): 8.5 x 11 inches; frame: 11.5 x 15.25 inches
